    MILLY'S STOVIES

cabbage (optional)
onion bacon
potatoes

large plate or something would do. Slice the onion (you don't need to break it up into rings) and cover the base of the frying pan. Peel and slice the potatoes covering the onion. If you are using the cabbage, slice it (don't bother breaking it up) and use it to cover the potatoes. Then lay the bacon, in strips, over the top so that it covers everything. Take the pan over to the stove and use a jug to fill the pan with water so that it just covers most of the veggies and is touching the bacon. Bring it to the boil, then simmer it, covered loosely, for up to 2 hrs. It's cooked when you can stick in a fork and not meet any resistance from the potatoes. Serve. Individuals may choose to
add pepper, but mysteriously, it doesn't seem to really need seasoning.

Note: I learned to cook this when Milly was little; we both loved it & it's very easy.

MILLY'S PASTA TORINESE-ISH

1-2 eggs
grated cheese or Parmesan
sardines (optional)
bacon pieces (optional)
pasta (if its lasagne sheets, break it up)
oil or margarine
garlic
basil
black pepper

Put on some water to boil in the pot; plenty of it; you'll be cooking pasta. Once boiled, add a little oil or margarine (maybe even salt, if you have it) so you don't have to think about it sticking. Throw in the pasta. If you found some garlic, now is a good time to peel it. Otherwise, just walk away and leave it for 15 mins. Check to see if the pasta is done by the taste method. When it is, drain it. Then put the pot back on the stove on a low heat and add the oil or margarine you have left over and some crushed garlic. Bacon pieces would go in now too, if you have them, or even sardines. Stir whatever you've got and throw the pasta back in. Stir some more so that every strand has got some oil on it. If you've got basil, add it now and stir. Then add the eggs (beaten) and stir. Then add the pepper. Turn off the heat and toss on some cheese, if you have any. Serve in bowls. You'll only need a fork.

Note: If you live alone you can leave it in the pot; saves dishes!

I think about how much I miss him, and started to feel sorry for myself...but then I think of all the people who never got the chance to meet him, and I start to feel sorry for them.
